there’s no way to really free up expression without ending the whole copyright racket. the net is a perfect example of “abuse” of copyright.

i just hope the race to hand over control of the internet to the copyright cabal of america is thwarted. at least there’s a touch of irony: the studios’ very formation on the west coast was to flee “the trust”, now the hollywood & riaa clan are the ones most aggressively pushing for legal protecton.

the first amendment looks safe for the time being, so intellectual property protection (eg. sopa & pipa) is probably where the free speech attack will come from.

I agree there’s an opportunity to do away with state broadcasting monopolies which is stronger now than at any time since broadcasting technology was first developed.

If the ABC doesn’t undergo genuine reform & democratisation and provide MUCH greater public accountability in future I may be joining the Austrians on that

The ABC’s charter should require news and current affairs staff to report truthfully and in an even handed way. Propaganda should not be deceptively funded as a civilian broadcasting service.

i’ll be chipping away at this core belief, as a coerced contributor to state propaganda! besides, there’s no such thing as impartiality, the best one can hope for is a large selection of biases. for that, there’s the net.
