Open Letter to Julia Gillard re: Compulsory Internet Censorship
Jun 30th, 2010 by Syd Walker

A message to readers…

Below is my best effort at a letter on the subject of Internet censorship to Australia’s new Prime Minister.

It’s an open letter, prompted by the spectacle of Communications Minister Stephen Conroy arrogantly insisting that the Rudd Government’s ‘internet filter’ proposal would go ahead anyway.

The ‘Contact Us’ page on Julia Gillard’s own website, at the time of writing, is not accepting emails or letters by online form. Instead, correspondents are encouraged to write via by post to:

The Hon Julia Gillard MP
Prime Minister
Parliament House
CANBERRA ACT 2600

If YOU have time and the inclination, writing direct to the Prime Minister – either via her website when it functions again or even better by snail mail – is well worth doing. Do it soon! Copy your letter to whoever you like, including your own MP. Send it to friends and encourage them to do the same!

You can use my letter (below) as a basis if you like – or even better write your own. Cut and paste material into it that concerns you especially. Feel free to ask hard questions. Freedom is what’s at stake.

If anyone believes there are errors in my letter – or wishes to suggest improvements – do post comments below.

Why not do something similar via your website, Facebook account, Twitter or whatever? Get the letters in – the more the better! Tell your friends, tell the world, write to the press and get on talk back radio.

As the Irish say… Good luck to us all!

Re: Mandatory Internet Censorship aka ‘Internet Filtering’

Dear Prime Minister

Congratulations on becoming Prime Minister.

As you know, one of the issues carried over from the Rudd Government is the topic of compulsory Internet censorship.

I wish to bring to your attention my strong objection to this proposal and urge you to withdraw it forthwith.

  • The Rudd Government never made a convincing case for introducing this new and potentially pervasive form of censorship.
  • The case that it could possibly be effective in achieving its stated objectives has never been made to the satisfaction of most informed Australians with an interest in this debate.
  • There are concerns it would lead to misplaced confidence that appropriate parental supervision is unnecessary.
  • There are concerns it will affect internet performance for all users
  • There are concerns it will lead to the creation of insecure lists
  • There are major concerns that ‘mission creep’ will occur over time; there can be no guarantee it will not happen.

Please drop plans to introducing mandatory Internet censorship and instead affirm your government’s commitment to net neutrality, personal privacy, data security, safety for children and individual freedom. They need not be competing objectives.

Efforts to introduce a single uniform filter should be re-directed to reviving and building on the Howard Government’s free-offer of voluntary filters. Voluntarism, consent, education and the provision of appropriate tools to the public are the keys to making the Internet safe for the vulnerable while keeping it free for citizens as a whole.

Please do not destroy your new government’s reputation for rationality and proper consultation by pursuing this highly unpopular and somewhat absurd measure.

Instead, please use your role to guide Australia into a more intelligent policy debate about unprecedented and complex issues, which affect us all, concerning the appropriate regulation of telecommunications to secure multiple objectives including privacy, security, freedom, transparency and safety.

Yours sincerely

We’re Losing our Nation to Lies about the Necessity of War
Jun 29th, 2010 by Syd Walker

Denis Kucinich is the closest thing to an honest man to be found in the US Congress today.

This brief speech is packed with punch. Kucinich concludes:

“We’re losing our nation to lies about the necessity of war!
Bring our troops home!
End the war!
Secure our economy!”

Botching murder spoils the romance
Jun 29th, 2010 by Syd Walker

“From a report in today’s Independent: Mossad boss heads for exit after Dubai murder fallout

Meir Dagan, the head of Mossad, Israel’s intelligence service, could step down in three months after the country’s Prime Minister refused to extend his term, a television channel has claimed.

The unconfirmed reports will prompt speculation that Mr Dagan, 65, is being ousted over a botched operation in January to kill a Hamas operative in Dubai that led to a diplomatic backlash from some of Israel’s closest allies.

Meir Dagan, Mossad boss. Employed to 'notch' murders, not to botch them

This is sad news indeed. One hates to hear of anyone losing their job, especially so close to retirement age.

Apparently the Israeli leadership”s concern was not that Dagan orchestrated murders. That was his job. The problem was he botched it.

The Dubai murder-debacle, which led to a souring of relations even with the usually supine Irish, British and Australian Governments, was ‘the final straw’.

Even so, the story reports that Dagan wasn’t a total failure:

Under his watch, Mossad is believed to have notched up a series of hits, including the assassinations of Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh in Damascus and Brigadier General Mohammed Suleiman, a senior figure in Syrian intelligence.

“Notched up a series of hits”?!

The biggest problem illustrated by this story, to my mind, is cynicism itself. It’s bad enough that utter maniacs are at the helm of a nuclear-armed, psychopathic Apartheid-type State. But what has happened to western journalism, and indeed to the entire western Enlightenment tradition, when the murderous goings-on of these people are reported – and eventually come to be regarded – as normal?

To be fair, The Independent is by no means the worst offender here. It’s one of the more enlightened western mainstream newspapers.

For shameless, in-your-face pro-Zionist/terrorist bias, it’s hard to beat the New York Times, whose reporter Deborah Solomon recently interviewed Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni.

Tzipi Livni, daughter of romantic terrorists

Asked about her parents, Livni was frank: “Both of them were in the Irgun,” Livni said. “They were freedom fighters, and they met while boarding a British train. When the British Mandate was here, they robbed a train to get the money in order to buy weapons.”

To this interesting admission that her interviewee was the daughter of anti-British terrorists, Solomon responded “It was a more romantic era”.

At least two national leaders have a clue. Meeting in Caracas, Presidents Chavez of Venezuela and President Assad of Syria discussed Israel:

Someday the genocidal state of Israel will be put in its place, in the proper place and hopefully a real democratic state will be born,” Mr Chavez said…. Mr Assad called Israel a state “based on crime, slaughter.”

“She knows that means currying favour with the Jews”
Jun 29th, 2010 by Syd Walker

Australia’s new Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, is entitled to a private life that’s private – as are we all.

She’s entitled to have boyfriends, girlfriends, dog friends, cats or any other kind of friends. They too are entitled to privacy.

Albert Dadon

Albert Dadon, Australia Israel Cultural Exchange Chairman. Not Julia Gillard's boyfriend. Likes: real estate deals and Israel. May like curry.

But Australians also like to be confident that their leaders represent genuine ‘whole-of-community’ interests, free from partisan bias.

Today comes the revelation that Gillard’s current boyfriend sells expensive real estate for the Ubertas Group. Ubertas’ managing director, Albert Dadon, is Chairman of the Australia Israel Cultural Exchange which helped organize the controversial ‘bipartisan’ trip to Israel last year.

Surely the only fair reaction to this story is to forget all about it?

After all, no-one would have cared two hoots if, back in the 1970s, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser had taken a lover who peddled Krugerrands! No-one would would have blinked had former PM Rudd bedded a man selling real estate on behalf of an Iranian immigrant who actively supported its Government.

Such purely personal, lifestyle choices would have attracted no mass media interest, as their politicial implications would clearly have been neglible. Australia is a mature multicultural society and there’s no place in this society for bigotry of any sort.

Exempt from the risk of legal persecution by an irate Jewish Lobby howling ‘hate speech’ and ‘anti-Semitism’, the Jewish Chronicle Online doesn’t mince its words. Last December JCO reported the remark of an anonymous ‘Jewish leader’: “[Julia Gillard] wants to be Australia’s first female prime minister and she knows that means currying favour with the Jews“.

Doubtless she does – and doubtless there’s a genuine national interest in this.

It’s well known that ALL Jews fully support the State of Israel and Australia’s national interests are ALWAYS identical with the interests of the Zionist State. The more Julia ‘curries up’, the better it is for all Australians. That’s politics!

The Prime Minister’s choice of bedroom companion is a separate matter. That’s personal. If he happens to be gainfully employed making a few bucks for the Chairman of the Australia Israel Cultural Exchange, so what?

No-one respects a kept man.

Besides, currying up to Albert Dadon is not exactly a break with the past for the ALP Leadership.

According to Realestate.source.com.au “Mr Dadon confirmed he spent New Years Eve with his ‘close friends’ Kevin Rudd and Therese Rein [Mrs Rudd], and finds Mr Mathieson [Julia Gillard's boyfriend] ‘personable with great manners’.”
