The Obama Administration has started to apply pressure on the Israeli Government to curb the most egregious of its revolting ways.
Expansion of settlements in the West Bank – all of them illegal under international law governing the obligations of military occupiers – is a particular bone of contention. Obama wants settlement expansion to stop. He’s said so publicly.
Israeli politicians, accustomed to inhabiting a high-tech biblical fantasy-land, in which they can do whatever they like to anyone in the name of their demented war-god, are in a state of shock and disbelief. Israel’s threat level has been raised. Therapy is in extra demand.
It’s not just Amalek to the east; now Pharoah has popped up on the western front as well!

The concern in Jerusalem after the Obama-Netanyahu meeting has turned into panic, once it was made clear that the administration wants Israel to really stop building in the settlements. Haaretz reports:
We’re disappointed,” said one senior (Israeli) official. “All of the understandings reached during the [George W.] Bush administration are worth nothing.” Another official said the U.S. administration is refusing every Israeli attempt to reach new agreements on settlement construction. “The United States is taking a line of granting concessions to the Palestinians that is not fair toward Israel,” he said.
Netanyahu’s team – consisted of National Security Adviser Uzi Arad, diplomatic envoy Yitzhak Molcho, Defense Ministry chief of staff Mike Herzog and deputy prime minister Dan Meridor – met in London with George Mitchell, the president’s envoy to the Middle East, and was shocked to find out that the old trick of allowing construction that will meet “natural growth” demands in the settlements won’t work anymore:
The Israeli delegates were stunned by the uncompromising U.S. stance, and by statements from Mitchell and his staff that agreements reached with the Bush administration were unacceptable. An Israeli official privy to the talks said that “the Americans took something that had been agreed on for many years and just stopped everything.”
Maariv’s Ben Caspit quotes Netanyahu as saying to his close aids “what does he [Obama] want from me? That the government will fall?”Today, on the weekly cabinet meeting, the National Religious Party’s leader, minister Daniel Herschkowitz, compared Obama to no other than the first leader who declared genocide on the Jewish people:
“The American demand to prevent natural growth is unreasonable, and brings to mind Pharaoh who said: Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river,” Science Minister and Habayit Hayehudi head Daniel Herschkowitz said Sunday.
“If there is a family that expands from one child to four or five, what should we tell them – to ship the children off to Petah Tikva (a Tel Aviv suberb)? This is an unacceptable demand, even if it comes from the Americans, and Israel should reject it decisively,” he affirmed.
Netanyahu himself has turned to the second trick in the Israeli arsenal – sending the Labor ministers to speak for the government. Ehud Barak has left for Washington, and will try to explain the PM’s delicate political situation. At the same time, Israel will probably try to check just how determined the new president really is. So far, his words were clear enough, but it remains to be seen what will happen when a new neighborhood east of the 67’ borders will be populated. My guess is that it is only a matter of time before Obama will be compared to Hitler.
Because Mossad rarely monitors this blog, perhaps Tel Aviv is unaware that a resurgent Hittite Empire is also in the offing?

Some 130 protesters gathered in front of the American Consulate in Jerusalem Wednesday afternoon to rally against U.S. President Barack Obama, who had just launched his Middle East tour, during which he is expected to reach out in friendship to the Muslim world.
As more than a dozen local and international journalists looked on, the protesters chanted “No, You Can’t” and waved posters saying “20 new ‘settlements’ by 2010 – Yes We Can!”
Far right activist Itamar Ben-Gvir, who attended the protest, told Channel 10 that “it appears that we’ve arrived at a red line, which has already been crossed by the most anti-Semitic American president.” Advertisement
“We are launching a campaign against Barack Hussein Obama. He is bad for the people of Israel and for the state of Israel and his policies could bring about disaster. We expect our prime minister to say ‘no’ to anyone who tries to harm us,” Ben-Gvir added.
National Union MKs Aryeh Eldad and Michael Ben Ari addressed the crowd, largely made up of native-English speaking Israelis.
“I’m here to tell Obama that Eretz Yisrael belongs to the Jewish people,” said Scottish-born Edith Ognall, who drove to the capital from her hometown of Netanya to attend the event. “What right does anybody have to tell us to stop building in the land that was given to us by God? I’m not going to stand by and let Obama, or anybody else, tell me where I can live and where I can’t live.”
I remember kids like that at school, many years ago.
