TWO Dreyfus Affairs: From Hero to Zero

Prologue: The First Dreyfus Affair

If you’ve never heard of the famous ‘Dreyfus Affair before, you may have skipped modern history at school.

Strictly speaking, it was a French affair – but it soon became famous far beyond the borders of France, in the 1890s and first decade of the 20th Century. The press gave the evolving saga feverish coverage.

French society was deeply shaken by the apparent scandal of injustice to a Jewish French Army captain, accused of spying for the Germans. Many took the side of Dreyfus and protested his innocence; others proclaimed his guilt. It was the ‘O.J. Simpson case’ of the era, with impacts that were considerably more significant.

Most popular historical accounts suggest Alfred Dreyfus was indeed innocent of the spying charges. I have no idea – but I’m quite prepared to accept that. My interest in mentioning the case is not to re-open it.

A French Family Discusses the Dreyfus Affair: before and after

In the mid-1890s, much of the French nation divided into ‘Dreyfusards’ and ‘anti-Dreyfusards. Families quarreled over the topic.

Eventually, Dreyfus was judged innocent, brought back from imprisonment on Devil’s Island and granted a Presidential pardon. But Europe was changed by the incident. The whole world was changed.

By the end of the Dreyfus Affair, there was a new political movement – complete with a ‘Founding Father’ – as well as a new, very widely-used term (with variants in numerous languages).

I’m not referring to Emile Zola (author of the now legendary Dreyfusard tract ‘J’Accuse!’) – nor to any of the other French intellectuals who became more prominent by their involvement in the Dreyfus Affair.

The new ‘Founding Father’ was Theodor Herzl – and the movement Zionism. The new term? ‘Anti-Semitism’.

It’s true that the word ‘ Zionism’ itself was also publicly launched during this period. But for many years, the concept of ‘anti-Semitism’ was much better known and more widely used than ‘Zionism’. That probably remains the case to this day.

Herzl did not invent the expression ‘anti-Semitism’. But it is fair to say he played a central role in its promulgation. In the early 1890s, few in Europe or America were familiar with the expression. By the time of Herzl’s untimely death in 1904 at the age of 44, it was in common usage.

‘Anti-Semitism’ had arrived. For some it was an expression of their phobia and aversion to Jews – for others a form of irrational paranoia and/or a rationale for Jewish separation.

’Anti-Semitism’ was a newly-labeled ‘problem’ with a ready-made ‘solution’, at least for Herzl. The solution was Zionism: a separate Jewish State.

Not everyone agreed with the solution of Zionism, of course. But in retrospect, what was crucial was that the two concepts – ‘Anti-Semitism’ and Zionism – were coupled together almost from their inception. Like two large iron balls linked by a chain, they would roll down the hill of history together, picking up pace and crashing through anything in the way.

The Israeli-agency Mossad: defending Jews - or intensifying anti-Jewish sentiment?

They have remained coupled ever since. Zionism feeds off – and requires – ‘Anti-Semitism’. It’s also increasingly the primary cause of what people describe as ‘Anti-Semitism’. The Zionist project thus creates its own sustenance: a veritable model of sustainability!

The Dreyfus Affair is famous and remains significant – to this day – because it helped launch modern Zionism and its parasitic dead twin: ‘Anti-Semitism’.

In and of itself, the Dreyfus Affair was a small case. Yet it assumed international and historical significance. Ultimately, for those who have really controlled the Zionist project from its inception – it was no more than a means to an end. Herzl’s role was also really no more than a means to an end. He has been given the historical credit for ‘founding ‘modern Zionism’. But he never called the shots. Herzl was modern Zionism’s first CEO – but he never sat on the board. His excursions into policy are poor clues to the agenda of those who devised and funded the Zionist project – and to what eventuated since his death.

Edmond James de Rothschild: a prime mover in early Zionism

Published in 1896, Herzl most famous work – a pamphlet called ‘The Jewish State’ (Der Judenstaadt) – carried the subtitle “Proposal of a modern solution for the Jewish question”.

Significantly, it was originally called ‘Address to the Rothschilds’. The key text of modern Zionism was conceived as an appeal to the world’s richest banking family.

21 years later, in 1917. the King of England, then head of the largest and wealthiest Empire the world had ever seen, also wrote directly to the head of the Rothschild family formally promising Palestine as a ‘Jewish home’.

The role of the Rothschilds was pivotal from the outset of Zionism – and recognized as such by key protagonists. (It’s also noteworthy that the initial ingress of separatist Jewish settlers into Palestine dates from the 1880s, long before Herzl’s involvement; it was funded by Baron Edmund James de Rothschild.

Dreyfus humiliated: a classic image in the Dreyfus case

Seen in this historical context, The Dreyfus Affair was what in modern times we call a ‘media beat-up’. Of course, punishment of an innocent man (assuming Dreyfus was innocent) is a serious matter. If this was done for reasons of sectarian bigotry, that’s also important to report and a crusading media should indeed seek redress for the victim. The grim conditions on France’s notorious penal colony doubtless also merited reporting.

The case was not insignificant. However, when the fate of one man becomes the talking point of Europe, media coverage is, perhaps, out of proportion to the issue overtly at stake. It suggests an underlying motive. I believe the motive, ABOVE ALL, was to launch the concept of ‘anti-Semitism’ and promote its universal usage.

Herzl played an important role in this, but he was not the only player in the orchestra. The press as a whole – much (although by no means all) in Jewish hands – served as an vast amplifier. The stage was thus set for a new century (the 20th Century) that might well be given the subtitle ‘Anti-Semitism and its Consequences’.

The New Dreyfus Affair: Missing Epilogue?

History is full of ironies.

In June 2008, a young police inspector with a background in the Metropolitan anti-Terrorism squad (who had also, reportedly, been on duty during the 7/7 London bombings), was reportedly observed by British Member of Parliament George Galloway and a respected British journalist at an anti-Bush demonstration in London, undertaking what appeared to be the role of agent provocateur.

Inspector Chris Dreyfus: little media interest in this man or his curious activities

The policeman’s name is Christopher (Chris) Dreyfus. When Galloway went public with an open letter about this to the Home Secretary, it seemed the case might well be tagged the New Dreyfus Affair.

Yet the mass media has shown no interest at all in this case. Even George Galloway and Yasmin Whittacker-Khan, the journalist who first mentioned the incident in a national newspaper without naming the officer, have been silent on the subject ever since.

On February 6th this year, Britain’s Socialist Unity website, which had reported Galloway’s Open letter the previous year, published the following item as an update:

On 25 June 2008 we published a posting, by Andy Newman, entitled “J’accuse! — the Dreyfus Affair”. This posting included a copy of a letter Mr George Galloway MP had sent to the RT Hon Jacqui Smith the Home Secretary, identifying Inspector Christopher Dreyfus as an agent provocateur at an anti-war demonstration in Parliament Square on 15 June 2008.

Easily convinced

Mr Galloway said that he had observed Inspector Dreyfus commit various crimes, including incitement to violence, attempted assault on a police officer and several serious public order offences. He called upon the Home Secretary to conduct an inquiry into Inspector Dreyfus’ behaviour. Our posting called upon readers to comment on Mr Galloway’s letter. We made clear that Inspector Dreyfus denied the allegations.

We understand that, as a result of Mr Galloway’s letter, the matter has been comprehensively investigated by the British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police, and that their findings have been reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The investigations did not substantiate Ms Whittaker-Khan’s story or the allegations in Mr Galloway’s letter. The CPS has confirmed that there is no case to answer.

We now accept that Christopher Dreyfus was not present at the demonstration and did not engage in any of the criminal behaviour referred to in Ms Whittaker-Khan’s story or Mr Galloway’s letter. We apologize to him for the damage caused to his reputation.

This item was picked up and reported by NiqNaq, a private UK-based blog, but swiftly removed. Apparently, someone contacted the blogger and pointed him to the earlier Socialist Unity story. NiqNaq immediately accepted the explanation, deleted its first article and issued a restraction.

George Galloway MP: was his open letter of complaint reckless misreporting - or has he since been silenced?

I had missed the February 2009 Socialist Unity article until then, because it used the words ‘Christopher Dreyfus’. My web searches employed the search term ‘Chris Dreyfus’, the shorter form of this man’s name, which had been used in previous reports and correspondence that I’d seen.

However, had I noticed the Social Unity ‘Correction’ myself, I think I’d still have been inclined to ask a few questions before accepting it as gospel truth.

If Galloway was truly mistaken, where is his public explanation and apology? I can’t find it.

If forced to issue such an apology, George Galloway’s credibility would be shot to pieces. He has plenty of political enemies; one would imagine that if the politician had been mistaken when publicly identifying this particular policeman as a suspected agent provocateur, they’d relish humiliating him over the incident.

But no – it seems there’s a broad consensus to keep this story out of the media. It’s the antithesis of the first Dreyfus Affair; this is the scoop that no-one wants…

What a contrast it all makes with the ferocious investigative journalism of the famous Dreyfus Affair!

If journalists in Herzl’s day had been so accepting, Alfred Dreyfus would surely have perished on Devil’s Island…

2001: Hate Crime of the Century

The 9-11 attacks set the world ablaze with the so-called ‘War on Terror’.

Danish scientist Niels Harrit is careful not to assign blame. But he doesn’t buy the official conspiracy theory. He treats it with dignified scorn.

Dr Harrit was recently interviewed by a rather hostile German journalist from GulliNews. This transcript deserves the widest readership. Illustrations, captions and emphases have been added to this version:

Introduction:

Some time ago, gulli.com featured the news about the work of a team of independent scientists from Denmark, USA and Australia. They claim to have found a substance called Nano Thermite in the dust of the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York City. Nano Thermite is an explosive, normally only used by the military, not available on the normal market. It is a relative to thermite, a substance used for welding.

On the Gulli board one of the biggest discussions [German language] ever broke loose between so called conspiracy theorists and people who trust the official version about 9/11. More than 28.000 views. More than 800 postings. We gave sceptical gulli users the chance to ask their questions directly to Dr. Niels Harrit, one of the scientists. The gulli users asked really tough questions and didn’t censor anything. We gave all those questions to Mr. Harrit and were really curious how he would respond. He answered. gulli.com: Your full name and title?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Dr. Niels Holger Harrit.

gulli.com: Your age?

Dr. Niels Harrit: 64

gulli.com: Please explain exactly in what subject you earned your doctorate and what you studied / you are an expert in.

Dr. Niels Harrit: My master degree, which I earned in 1971, was based on the work I did for one year at Max-Planck-Institut für Strahlenchemie, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. My doctor thesis from 1975 from University of Copenhagen was in mechanistic photochemistry. I spent a year at Columbia University, New York City as post doc. in 1977.

gulli.com: Your current profession?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Docent at University of Copenhagen.

gulli.com: Please tell us what exactly you are teaching.

Dr. Niels Harrit: I teach organic chemistry, photochemistry and photophysics to nanoscience students and chemistry students. I supervise master students and Ph.D. students.

gulli.com: Got some references?

Dr. Niels Harrit: I have published close to 60 papers in the best peer-reviewed journals.

gulli.com: Can you please tell us about what you published? Give some examples which might be related? Which journals? Also some examples?

Dr. Niels Harrit: I enclose my list of publications. My latest paper is currently “Hot paper of the month” in Angewandte Chemie, one of the world’s most leading journals of chemistry. I am a senior member of a “Centre of Excellence” Molecular Movies where I mostly work with physicists on time resolved X-ray scattering. This centre is a subdivision of the Nano-Science Center at the University of Copenhagen, of which I have been a faculty member since it started in 2001.

gulli.com: Your mindset concerning 9/11 – are you a believer or a questioner?

Dr. Niels Harrit: I am opposed to crime.

gulli.com: Your website?

Dr. Niels Harrit: None.

gulli.com: What exactly allows you to say that you are an expert on Nano Thermite?

Dr. Niels Harrit: There are no experts on nanothermite without connections to the military.

gulli.com: Do you and your team expect any benefit from releasing this work?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Restoring justice, democracy and free press. Avoid fascism. A better world for my grandchildren.

gulli.com: Who financed the work?

Dr. Niels Harrit: No one.

gulli.com: So you all worked in your spare time at no charge – for free – on this 2 years study? You used university infrastructure though?

Dr. Niels Harrit: You have an unreal conception of what it is to be a scientist. It is not a job. It is an existence. I do not have spare time. Of course I use my office at the university.

RELATE TO THE FACTS

gulli.com: Please forgive us our strange questions! But right on: Many of the team of scientists are from the Truther movement. Steven E. Jones, who is preaching the controlled demolition of WTC since years. There are 2 colleagues from Jones’s university in your team: Jeffrey Farrer and Daniel Farnsworth.

Kevin R. Ryan, Gregg Roberts and James R. Gourley are from the Truther movement as well. How can this team guarantee neutrality concerning the study?

Dr. Niels Harrit: In European football, you get penalties for attacking the man instead of playing the ball. Besides, I am proud to be on a team with grown-up scientists who have fought for 911 truth longer than I have. Please, read the paper, RELATE TO THE FACTS and nothing else.

gulli.com: Ok then. Where, when and how exactly did you get the dust? How did you make sure its pure and original dust from 911? Were any officials present when you took the samples?

Dr. Niels Harrit: All this is accurately accounted for in the paper.

gulli.com: Is it right that Steven Jones organised the samples? Steven Jones is known as an absolute believer in the 911 conspiracy and folks out there do not step back from accusing him of mixing the dust of with explosives to finally bring the “proof” for the controlled demolition.

Dr. Niels Harrit: This is an absolute insult to an honest scientist. Furthermore, it is a stupid question, in as much as we are anti-conspiracy theorists. We oppose the official conspiracy theory. That’s all.

gulli.com: How do you make 100% sure that the dust you analyzed was not altered, or anybody mixed it up with Nano Thermite before you analyzed it?

Dr. Niels Harrit: See next question.

gulli.com: OK. Did you compare the dust samples to samples you did not get from Steven E. Jones?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Yes. I have two samples in Copenhagen which were sent to me directly from the collectors, and they contained the chips as well. There is a handful of other scientists who can bring the same testimony.

Dr. Niels Harrit: I believe there are about 20 samples out there, but I don’t know exactly and I have no reason to care.

gulli.com: How come that you were chosen to examine the dust?

Dr. Niels Harrit: I am part of the team. I was invited to join.

gulli.com: If you gross it up, how much Nano Thermite was laying around in Lower Manhattan after the collapse?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Very, very difficult to put an absolute number on that. Let us say 10 tons.

IT WAS NOT PREPARED IN A CAVE IN AFGHANISTAN

gulli.com: Is it possible for terrorists to get hold of this material? It’s such a special material, so that only people from inside the US army could get hold of it. Where can Nano Thermite be bought? Can normal people buy it as well? Or only companies / military?

Dr. Niels Harrit: This stuff has only been prepared under military contracts in the USA and probably in bigger allied countries. This is secret military research. Do your own guess work and read Kevin Ryan’s article on this subject. It was not prepared in a cave in Afghanistan.

gulli.com: How does Nano Thermite differ from Thermite and Thermate? What is the special function? Who does normally use Nano Thermite and for which purposes is it used?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Thermate is thermite which contains sulphur.

gulli.com: What is Thermate used for normally?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Melting steel items. Armour, for example. Nanothermite is thermite prepared by nanotechnological methods.

SMALLER, CHEAPER AND NASTIER

gulli.com: So it is much smaller and therefore has a bigger surface which makes it react much quicker and more energetic?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Yes, the particles are much smaller. But it is prepared in a radically different way compared to ordinary thermite, where the small particles are made by making bigger particles smaller.

In nanomaterials, the particles are prepared from atoms and molecules.

Nanothermite is the explosives of the future. “Smaller, cheaper and nastier” (as they say, those who want funding for their research).

gulli.com: Does Nano Thermite have more power than regular explosives such as C4 or TNT? What are the biggest benefits that Nano Thermite has?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Power, safety, versatility. It is cheap too. “Smaller, cheaper and nastier” than regular explosives.

gulli.com: You say that there is iron oxide and aluminium and conclude that this means it’s Nano Thermite. Isn’t it normal in such a building that there is iron oxide and aluminium? Or could it happen that the substance Nano Thermite was produced as a result of the collapse?

Dr. Niels Harrit: No way. You don’t expect a box of matches to be formed in a fire.

gulli.com: Did you have other samples of Nano Thermite (not from the dust) to compare while you studied the dust? Just to make sure it is real Nano Thermite?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Yes. We have prepared it ourselves, since there have been some scientific publications and conference reports. It performs as expected. But it is not exactly the same variety as the stuff we have found in the WTC dust.

gulli.com: Can Nano Thermite be prepared by a university without any OK from government officials? It is a very dangerous substance, so that it might fall under assault weapons law?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Nanothermite is quite safe to handle. All the known programs (in US) are funded by military funds and secret. See this, which only covers what was know at the time of writing.

A big part of the Pentagon budget is secret. This part is up to 60 billions e.g. this year.

gulli.com: Why did no bomb sniffing dog bark?

Dr. Niels Harrit: All the bomb sniffing dogs were sent home by the security company two weeks before. Furthermore, they are trained on conventional explosives which smell rather characteristically.

gulli.com: Did anybody who is not involved in the Truther movement double-check your studies? Like independent blasters or producers of Nano Thermite?

Dr. Niels Harrit: The paper was peer-reviewed as it is routinely done with scientific publications.

gulli.com: Who did this peer-reviews? Can you explain at least which kind of people it has been? Officials from your university?

Dr. Niels Harrit: The referees are anonymous. They are not officials from my university. No one at my university knows more about this than I do. The University is not responsible for the research. Only the authors are.

gulli.com: Nano Thermite is both an explosive and a substance for welding?

Dr. Niels Harrit: No. Welding is performed with conventional thermite. Everyone can buy it. It is not an explosive. It only produces hot, molten iron.

gulli.com: Do you have any theory who placed the substance in the towers? Could it be the company “Controlled Demolition” whose president Mark Loizeaux openly denies the existence of Nano Thermite, although he is an expert on demolition? His company came up with a clean up plan for Ground Zero shortly after the collapse. People accuse him to have taken down the WTC.

Dr. Niels Harrit: No. I absolutely do not like to speculate beyond the data. We insist on a criminal investigation of the crime. No investigation has been carried out yet.

gulli.com: What exactly do you want to achieve with your work on Nano Thermite and 911?

Dr. Niels Harrit: The truth.

gulli.com: Why did almost no news portals, TV stations or even scientific journals except some conspiracy websites report about your results?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Ask them!

gulli.com: How do you deal with people calling you a “stupid conspiracy theorist”?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Shrug my shoulders. They are going to come down. I am an anti-conspiracy theorist. The only conspiracy theory worth dealing with is the official conspiracy theory – the one with Osama Bin Laden and the 19 hijackers. Now, ain’t it stupid to believe the official conspiracy theory without having been presented one single piece of evidence? Who are the fools?

gulli.com: Is it true that somebody in your team lost his job because of your common examination? And if yes, how could that happen?

Dr. Niels Harrit: No, not yet. But some of them lost their jobs before that!!

gulli.com: Why did they lose their job? Linked to the work on 911? Who kicked them out then and why?

Dr. Niels Harrit: They lost their job because they are critical of the Official Conspiracy Theory. Steven E. Jones was forced into early retirement from Brigham Young University. Kevin Ryan was fired from Underwriters Laboratories, who were responsible for certification of the steel to the towers.

You have to accept that far from everything leaksout, since you do not know what does not leak out.

gulli.com: How do you think did “they” manage it that nobody from the crew of demolition specialists told the public afterwards that it was a crime? Normally everything leaks out. Have they all been jailed in WTC Building 7?

Dr. Niels Harrit: No. You have to accept that far from everything leaks out, since you do not know what does not leak out. This is the greatest cover-up in history. No one was killed in WTC7.

gulli.com: Do you expect that the results of your research will result in any official inquiries of the police or FBI etc.? Did you send a copy of the results to the FBI? What happened?

Dr. Niels Harrit: Yes. A copy has actually been sent to FBI. I am not in a position to give a full account of the response, but as I recall, it was surprisingly receptive.

gulli.com: How are you connected with other specialists who want to reopen 911?

Dr. Niels Harrit: I don’t really have time to connect. I am totally busy keeping up with all the attention this last paper has received. I am overwhelmed by that, since we are not really bringing something new. I am just doing the best I can., the day only has so and so many hours and I still have to attend to my job.

gulli.com: Yes, if you google your name at the moment, you get more than 260.000 results. What would you suggest how to move on now? Next steps for the media / the public?

Dr. Niels Harrit: The media hasn’t reacted yet. It is the duty of the public to tell them that if they keep on lying for much longe, they will lose what little credibility they have left.

Silence gives consent! Ask questions!! Trust yourself. It is not so complicated. There were two airliners, but three skyscrapers. You don’t need a scientist to count to three.

Everyone should push every button and demand truth in the press. This is very serious. Every action, no matter how small, counts.

My major point: Everyone is lying, everyone is scared. So we have to trust ourselves, and it is not so hard.

Leonard Cohen: will he end his career as a toady for Jewish supremacists?

It’s a powerful show – perhaps the finale to a lifetime of live perfomances that have held a generation spellbound. Watch the Hamilton concert on U-Tube. If, like me, you enjoy Cohen’s music, it’s nectar.

The tour moves down to the USA, crossing the Atlantic in early June for a long summer meander through Europe. The penultimate concert is scheduled for Barcelona on September 21st.

At present, Cohen’s program includes a final concert in Jerusalem on September 24th.

Why a self-proclaimed Buddhist would even consider performing in an Apartheid State, singing about peace and love while the local indigenous people are excluded by a monstrous concrete wall, is a question Cohen should be asked, again and again – until he drops the disgusting idea.
