I also care if I stub my toe, but when I do I'm aware of the difference between my condition and the pain of a next door neighbor who is gravely ill. I try to keep some perspective on my woes - and I notice most other people do. But it's my observation that Israeli society, as a whole, is not good at this. Each death, injury or discomfort to a Jewish Israeli is treated as at least 100 times more serious than the equivalent to a non-Jew. Some say that's because of deep-rooted supremacism that's rooted in the Jewish religion. Others put it down to a society in State of perpetual war that's come to believe its own war propaganda. Whatever the case, it's surely time this mass stupidity comes to an end - not only for the sake of the people in that region of the world, but for the whole world's sake. So... Israel wanted Gazan resistance fighters to stop firing toy rockets at neighbouring towns? Very understandable. But also understandable that Gazans retaliated against a brutal economic blockade and frequently violent Israeli 'incursions'. The road to peace is not that hard to find. But you do set out on it in good faith (as opposed to finding excuses to avoid it). It begins respect for your fellow human beings and compromise. As the occupying power with overwhelming military might, Israel holds the cards. Stop trying to pretend otherwise. Get on with making peace! Yes, I care Joanne.
