Jon Snow’s Unseen Gaza
February 1st, 2009 by Syd Walker

Veteran British reporter Jon Snow arrived in Israel in the third week of the attack on Gaza. His Unseen Gaza report looks closely at Israel’s media management of the war. Fascinating stuff.

Channel 4′s website has a page about Unseen Gaza

At present, YouTube Links to the Series are here:

One + Two + Three + Four + Five + Six

Thanks also to Sally, whose comment provides a link to a better quality version of ‘Unseen Gaza’.

    Syd,

You can watch the whole documentary, “Unseen Gaza”, in much better quality, at the link below, and you’ll need RealPlayer to view it:

    Syd,

Here’s a link to a blogger, Kim, who describes herself as “an Australian activist living in West Bank of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. This is an account of my time here”:

    http://livefromoccupiedpalestine.blogspot.com/

I always wondered how the “Handala” image originated, and Kim did a post on 24 July, 2007 entitled “The Life and Death of Naji al-Ali: voice of a nation” about its Palestinian creator:

“Palestinian cartoonist Naji Salim al-Ali was shot in London on July 22, 1987 by an unknown assassin. He lapsed into a coma and died five weeks later on August 29, 1987………

………At 10 years of age, al-Ali and his family were forced to flee Palestine to Lebanon, when Israel invaded and seized the West Bank and Gaza Strip. In Lebanon, he like thousands of others Palestinians, were forced to live in poor and over crowded refugee camps. This experience gave birth to his most famous creation, Handala (sometimes spelt Hanthala or Hanzala).

The cartoonist christened his 10 year-old boy creation, who never spoke but was the guardian of the Palestinian cause, after a short bitter bush which can be found throughout all of Palestine. The bush although weak, if cut, has the reputation of growing back, time and time again.”

Channel Four went up in my estimation, in direct and opposite relation to how low the BBC sank. I knew of course that the BBC was fully taken over after the Dr David Kelly murder, but now they seem to have dropped all pretense at being impartial.

To see the vermin Israeli spokesman Mark Regev squirming in his seat as it slowly dawned on him that he wasn’t being interviewed by the usual Zionist loving fool, was hugely enjoyable. When these monsters start to raise their voice you know they are losing, as with Shimon Peres being confronted by Turkey’s PM.

I expect Channel Four to suffer as a result now though. Funding issues will probably be in the news soon, and staff shake ups.
