Protests against Israel’s murdeous rampage in Gaza are growing.
In Scotland, the BBC was feeling the heat.
Around 150 caring people stood defiantly outside the BBC HQ in Glasgow tonight and proclaimed loudly: “Occupation is a crime, why not say it on prime time?”

A colourful array of banners and flags accompanied a more sombre presentation of white-clothed baby figures lying in a long row along the BBC steps, a stark reminder of the murdered infants of Gaza.
Predictably, no BBC reporter ventured out of this shiny new glass building to do that most basic thing: report what we were doing. Instead, some stood looking out, while many others, on finishing their workday, walked briskly by, eyes averted. Someone beside me, a recent employee, said that there was a virtual atmosphere of intimidation when it came to staff voicing their opinions on such matters
Professor David Miller (Strathclyde University) and Nicola Fisher (Co-chair of Glasgow Stop the War Coalition) were permitted to meet with Ian Small, the BBCs Director of Public Affairs, to air the movement’s views and hand him a 9 point letter of complaint.
In south west England, a branch of Lloyds Bank closed in a hurry yesterday when pro-Palestinian protestors arrived, angry at its despicable behaviour towards a Palestinian charity. MediaLens explains why the good folk of Bristol are angry:
Lloyds TSB recently ordered the Islamic Bank of Britain which it owns, to close the accounts of Interpal, a highly respected international humanitarian relief charity – working in Occupied Palestine

Interpal is a respected UK charity which helps alleviate the agony of Gaza. It has been thoroughly investigated by the Charities Commission (following malicious complaints by US Government) and had been given the all clear!
By doing so, Lloyds TSB is on the verge of ending humanitarian aid for up to five million Palestinian refugees in desperate need. It will only serve to escalate the horrific suffering of innocent people.
At first Lloyds TSB denied any hand in the affair however it has now transpired that Lloyds TSB (acting as a clearing bank) to Islamic Bank of Britain (with whom Interpal bank), wrote to the IBB on 8th October 2008 stating: “We are writing to you to give you notice that…we do not wish you to transfer, receive, process or in any way deal with any funds, or in any way whatsoever (acting either as banker or agent on behalf of the Customer) be involved with any type of banking arrangements for Interpal”
Even for a Goliath like Lloyds TSB, which has itself recently received billions of pounds in bailout funds from the British taxpayer, this is indeed uncharacteristic behaviour. Why would the bank take such a callous action? Remarkably no official reason has been given.
Oh dear. It must have seemed such a good idea in the Lloyd’s boardroom at the time. How easy to do favours for Zionists mates. How easy just to support Jewish Charities. After all, Chairman Victor Blank is also a governor of Tel Aviv University, Chair of UJS/Hillel, a member of the Advisory Board of the United Jewish Israel Appeal and is involved in Labour Friends of Israel. Who cares about the Palestinians anyway?
Lloyds Bank has its answer. A LOT of people care. The campaign against Lloyds is gathering momentum. Who’d deposit a penny with this shyster bank until it apologizes and donates a sizeable sum to Interpal by way of amends?
Tzipi Livni, war criminal
There are indications the international media is stirring. Tzipi Livni gave a lively press conference, reported in Haaretz:
One of the more tense moments came when one journalist began to quote at length a Human Rights report on the situation in Gaza, before asking Livni to comment on “the murder of innocent civilians in the Strip.”
When the man was asked to finish his question, he yelled “you are letting her speak for an hour, and you aren’t allowing us to ask questions. Since when have you hosted terrorists here?“
Meanwhile YNet reports that in New Zealand, Israelis are going thirsty:
(A) sign placed at entrance to pub in Kaikoura reads, ‘Israelis not welcome before Gaza shelling stops’… (and) two Israeli woman (were) ordered to leave another pub because ‘Israel kills innocent babies and women‘
An Israeli citizen residing in Kaikoura, New Zealand has informed Ynet Friday that a local pub, the Strawberry Tree, placed a sign outside its door reading, “Israelis not welcome before shelling (in Gaza) stops“.
Mustafa Tekinkaya: believes innocent Palestinian children have human rights too
In another New Zealand case, a Turkish restaurant owner refused to serve Israelis. Jewish groups arranged protests outside his cafe and complain he’s breached human rights legislation.
But Mr Tekinkaya defends his right to express his point of view, acnowledging his detractors also have the right to organize support for the killing of inncoent Palestinian children.
Bravo, if you ask me. That’s where I’ll eat when I visit Invercargill!
Is any of this having an impact on Israeli public opinion?
Reputedly, the majority of the Israeli public stands squarely behind its Government and remains indifferent to the suffering of Gazans.
Perhaps this report has woken some of them up?
Israeli television broadcast desperate cries for help from a Palestinian doctor on Friday after his children were killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip and troops later helped surviving members of the family.
The telephone calls created extraordinary scenes during evening news broadcasts as the doctor, a Hebrew-speaking physician who spoke regularly on Israeli television, said three of his children were killed in a tank strike and others were wounded.
“My girls were sitting at home planning their futures, talking, then suddenly they are being shelled,” he said in a voice shaking with emotion. “I want to know why they were killed, who gave the order?“
Children terrorized by the Israeli assault on Gaza
Izz el-Deen Aboul Aish is a gynaecologist who worked in one of Israel’s main hospitals before Gazans were effectively sealed off behind an Israeli-led blockade on the Hamas-controlled enclave. He often gave interviews to Channel 10 television.
With Israeli journalists unable to report from the Gaza Strip independently, Aboul Aish acted as a Hebrew-speaking witness who told of the Palestinian civilians’ suffering under fire during Israel’s three-week-old offensive there.
